X-League – Second series is about to start

July, 2016

XGolf HR-23

X-Golf Avonhead’s successful X-League series is returning for its second season on August 1.

The tournament is held over six weeks, starting with a round robin style format, followed by two weeks of finals. All you have to do is get three mates together, give yourselves a team name and then let rip! Every Monday night, nine holes of golf, beer and banter, on the world’s most accurate golf simulators.

With an entry fee of $200 per team, players can enjoy up to 63 holes for $66.66 per person. You don’t need to be a pro golfer to enjoy what X-League has to offer. In fact, you don’t need an official NZGA handicap when entering. Handicaps are worked out on a three game rolling average, where after each round we work out what your handicap will be for the next game.

A recap of the first X-League series:

We were treated to some nail-biting drama during the six rounds. It was surprising how the handicaps played a HUGE factor in the results. A lot of the matches came down to the wire, and only a couple of shots separated a winner.

A highlight from the series was a sublime -8 from Templeton Club pro John Bae. While his team didn’t progress into the finals, it was wonderful seeing the team of professionals take part.

Heading into the final round robin event, the top four placings were all up for grabs. The biggest turn around in the season was highlighted when the bottom two teams ended up first and second! Two big swings ensured the tables were turned, which set-up the ultimate finals.

After a walk-through semi-finals, the final match was competed between ‘O for Awesome’ and ‘Easy As’. The games were neck-and-neck all the way through and a couple of exceptional shots sealed two early wins.

It was down to the last match to decide the fate of the final – and what a way to finish! After 18 holes both Jonny Stieller and Craig Scott were tied, ensuring a three-hole playoff.

Johnny’s dead aim ensured a win and the first team to claim the X-League Trophy. In doing so they also won a generous prize package at the prestigious Peppers Clearwater Resort, including; accommodation, meals and a round of golf with cart hire!!

The coming X-League season is set to be a thriller! All that remains to been seen is who will be the next one to step-up and sink that clutch putt and live on forever in X-League infamy???

X League Update

July, 2016

Outside the cold winter weather may be on its way but indoors here at X-Golf Avonhead things are about to heat up with the launch of our first X-League.
Playtime is over as teams of three will go head-to-head across nine holes of handicapped stroke play every Monday night, leading to a Grand Final and crowning of the inaugural X-League champions.

On the night, all teams will tackle the same course and each player will be assigned individual opponents (match) before the commencement of the round based on Handicap order, higher to lower. Handicaps will be based on a 3 game rolling league score average.

The player with the best NETT score in the match will receive one point for their team, and ½ point each for an equal score. From that, the winning team receives 4 ladder points, squared contest 2 points and losing teams 1 point.

At the completion of the regular season, the top four teams advance to the finals series. The highest ranked team gets to pick the course for their respective Semi-Final and Grand Final match-ups, adding an element of strategy to the clutch part of the season.

X-League has proven a big hit with our Australian counterparts, having been established in 2012, its grown to now running several league nights weekly at multiple X-Golf locations. So if you missed out entering your team this time keep an eye out for future leagues starting up with us.
